We are a non-profit sports organization. The mission of the East Honolulu Girls Softball (EHGS) Club is to organize, encourage, educate individuals and organizations, as well as to financially support the development of girls fastpitch softball in the East Honolulu area of the City and County of Honolulu, Hawaii. Interested players from other areas of Honolulu will not be excluded from participating in the EHGS Club.
We are an affiliate of the Oahu Junior Olympics Girls Softball Association(OJO) whose mission is “..to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, through organizing softball competition, promulgating rules, training coaches and players, not only in the rules of the game but the importance of good sportsmanship, teamwork, hard work, discipline and physical fitness.”
All coaches are required to be certified by attending the Positive Coaching Alliance Workshops. The workshop is based on three principles:
1. Honor the Game
2. Fill Emotional Tanks
3. Redefine “Winner”
Supporting research is presented from experts in coaching, education and sports psychology.
Coaches must also be ACE Certified [(Achieve, Certify, Educate) Coaching Certification Program] to ensure that youth coaches have basic training in softball skills and knowledge to benefit young athletes, improve relations with parents and umpires, and coaches are better educated and confident in their abilities. Coaches must also sign a “Code of Ethics” pledge.
We are also part of the National Amateur Softball Association (ASA) which is a volunteer driven not-for-profit organization. One of ASA’s objectives is to promote proper safeguards in accordance with the spirit of true sportsmanship and establish principles for ethical behavior in the sport of softball. Thus, all coaches and umpires must submit to a background check regarding criminal background and driving record reports obtained through a Social Security number trace gathered from county, federal and/or statewide record searches.
